The Various Causes Of Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids or Piles generally can be the cause of utter discomfort and difficult conditions in normal life for several people. This disease is not necessarily seen within the elderly people. Often it is seen that young college students can also be suffering from Hemorrhoids. It is not any genetic problem. It can happen to almost anyone. It mostly depends on some particular habits and conditions of people. To understand what makes Hemorrhoids to develop we need to understand the various habits that may result in this potentially painful disease.
Piles are actually inflamed veins near the rectal and pelvic portion of the body. As this area is involved in the defecation process of the body, bowel movements can become really uncomfortable and painful at times. Too much pressure on these veins causes blocked blood flow in the area. Increased pressure causes blood to collect in this area and cause swellings. This swellings then spread on the nearby tissues thus giving rise what known as hemorrhoids.
The various habits and conditions of people which can cause increased pressure in the rectal area which eventually causes hemorrhoids are as follows:
1. Constipation is known to be one of the most common cause of hemorrhoids. In constipation people face difficulty in bowel movements due to roughage problems. So when people put extra strain on pelvic veins during bowel movements this leads to swellings in future and finally hemorrhoids.
2. Being overweight can be another potential cause of hemorrhoids. Excessive fat accumulation in the pelvis or abdomen due to unhealthy food habits can cause pressure on the veins of the pelvic area which can cause hemorrhoids.
3. If someone regularly does haste to complete bowel movements then these can cause unwanted strains in the pelvic veins and ultimately hemorrhoids may develop.
4. During pregnancy blood flow to the pelvis region increases. Also the growing baby inside may cause excessive weight over the abdominal area. This may sometimes cause hemorrhoids during pregnancy. The development of hemorrhoids may also be caused during delivery when pressure on the pelvic region increases.
5. Medical history like prolonged heart or liver problems or tumors in the rectal area can also cause hemorrhoids.
So apparently the common causes generally have their roots to behavioral problems and thus can be easily prevented if proper care is taken. Even if one is suffering from hemorrhoids, simple natural treatment can cure it. Crib Bedding Is The Anchor Of A Formaldehyde-Free And Jazzy Living Space For Your Youngster
First time parents in this day and age are finding that shopping for baby products and making a comfortable nursery for their child is an exciting venture. Parents today are thinking of their children’s future by purchasing crib bedding which is environmentally friendly and chemical-free.
Baby bedding in the past frequently contained harmful chemicals which threatened the health of newborn infants. Many nursery linens are treated with hazardous chemical flame retardants that are now strongly suspected of posing a health risk to baby’s small lungs. Some experts believe these chemicals might even interfere with her physical and mental development.
Baby boy bedding has changed since then and now lists everything used to make it. A growing flock of new parents are determined to choose organic bed linens for their daughters, and, as a result, 100% of credible businesses sell these bed linens as a standard. Never buy organic baby bedding unless you’ve already made sure that the sheets and blankets that interest you are properly certified as organic.
Parents must also be aware that nursery accessories like draperies and rugs can contain trace amounts of toxins, including formaldehyde. The most responsible merchants sell chemical-free accessories. Some offer low- no-Voc paint that goes along with the other products they sell.
Many companies, taking advantage of the growing demand for environmentally safe baby accessories, have begun to offer new parents an exceptionally wide array of baby-safe products that are sure to create a healthy, happy beginning for a precious newborn. Giggles crib set is not only free of vows but is also attractive, with a large range of designs.
Consumers determined to make a secure and attractive area will not be disgruntled with their choice of stylish bedding provided by this leading-edge and expanding business. Besides the wide selection of colorful and affordable crib sets, the Giggles company offers a selection of sheets and blankets that meet its exacting standards. A “green” nursery is the perfect way to show your little one that they deserve the best life has to offer.

Teeth whitening safety – What do you need to know!
Teeth whitening safety is monitored by the American Dental Association (ADA). All data and products related to teeth whitening are gathered and evaluated by the ADA for safety and effectiveness of use.
Two types of teeth whiteners are available in the market; those that change the shade of the teeth beyond their natural colors through bleaching and those that restore the teeth’s natural surface color by removing dirt and surface stains.
Teeth whitening products can be bought over the counter or from a licensed dentist. These are take home whitening kits that can be used at home by closely following the attached directions. It may take about weeks or months to get the desired effect, depending on the concentration level of hydrogen peroxide used. It is best to consult a dentist first before using a take home whitening kit and learn the risks involved.
Professional whitening treatment is done by a licensed dentist or a trained technician in a dentist’s office. Teeth bleaching products used by dentists has high concentration of hydrogen peroxide and are used under controlled conditions prescribed by the American Dental Association. In some cases of professional whitening treatment, a laser light is used to speed up the activation of the bleaching process. Professional whitening treatments last for more than an hour and will have the best effect within two weeks.
Despite the safety standards and precautions set by the ADA for teeth whitening, side effects are not uncommon as with all medications. These side effects range from temporary teeth sensitivity to irritation of the oral tissues, particularly the gums; or permanent tooth damage.
To lessen the risk of side effects a dental professional should be consulted. Choose a licensed dentist who has specialized training in teeth whitening and has ample experience in their records. Make sure that their credentials are legitimate. It would be better if a friend or acquaintance have undergone the same treatment and gives you their endorsement.
When there are cracks on the teeth or restorations have been done, it will be advisable to have a thorough dental examination first before undergoing a teeth whitening treatment.
The dentist will recommend the proper procedures and treatment necessary for your teeth. In such cases professional teeth whitening treatment is more desirable to lessen the risks involved.
When using toothpastes that contain whiteners (dentifrices) be sure that it has the Seal of Acceptance from the American Dental Association. These kinds of toothpastes contain chemical agents that will improve the appearance of the teeth by removing dirt and surface stains through the polishing action when brushing.

Who Were The Fathers Of The Barcode?
Barcodes are everywhere today, but it hasn’t actually been that way for very long. Bernard Silver and Norman Woodland started working on the idea in the late 1940s. Previous attempts at developing a similar system using punch cards never caught on due to the prohibitive equipment costs and the Great Depression.
Silver was so enthused by the problem, he continued pursuing it without funding. The first system he and Woodland developed used ultraviolet ink, but it proved both too expensive and untrustworthy, as the ink faded. He later claimed that Morse code gave him the inspiration that led to his first successful barcode design. He took the Morse code dots and dashes and put them in rows.
Of course having a system to read these codes was another matter. For this Silver adapted technology used for reading the sound scores on movie film. In 1949, the pair applied for a patent they received in 1952. Silver started working for IBM in 1951, who was, ironically, deeply involved in punch-card technology. Silver tried to interest the corporate giant in his project, and IBM actually commissioned a report which indicated the idea was feasible, but involved technology that was simply unavailable at the time.
It didn’t help that the prototype barcode scanner reading device set the paper ablaze either, but it did work. Still, IBM’s report proved accurate, as the 500-watt incandescent bulb was simply too much. The prototype reader system was also too large to be practical and they had no easy way to make it smaller. IBM attempted to buy the patents from Silver and Woodland, but they eventually got a better offer from Philco. Before the project with Philco could go very far Bernard Silver was killed in a car crash.
Meanwhile it was becoming clear that barcode scanning technology could be used by grocery stores who were trying to maintain the right amount of inventory, and railroads struggling to keep track of their many cars. Work had already been done in the railroad industry on a system with the same objectives as Silver and Woodlands barcodes.
The system used for rail cars was the work of David Collins working along with the Sylvania company. Collins recognized the application of the technology to industries other than railroads, but Sylvania was not interested. As a result Collins left his arrangement with Sylvania and created his own company called Computer Identics Corporation. Meanwhile Philco sold the barcode patent rights to RCA.
Development began in earnest in the late 1960s, as the grocery industry now demanded such technology. Manufacturing was also becoming more complex and competitive and needed more sophisticated methods of inventory and asset control.
The first installations made by Computer Identics were relatively crude systems placed in a Michigan General Motors plant and a warehouse in New Jersey owned by the General Trading Company. Meanwhile at RCA they were working on a laser-guided barcode system which was first installed at Kroger for testing. By the 1970s IBM became involved in barcode technology development again and put Norman Woodland in charge of their project. Barcode technology’s future had finally arrived.

Fantasy Art
About the Author :- Jim Campbell is an award winning bussinessman and author who has worked with a wide and varied range of subjects, from printed balloons to alcohol abuse
Fantasy art is an art genre that portrays supernatural, mystical, or magical themes, ideas, situations, or creatures. It is as viable a form of art as any other and just like any other genre or art form, it has its own rules and conventions. Fantasy art is an art of depictions of ancient myths and legends, as well as depictions of modern day fantasy in the form of divine interventions and other magical or supernatural forces.
Fantasy art covers everything from whimsical fairies to beautiful maidens to surreal, otherworldly landscapes, It is closely tied in with myths, legends and fairy tales and is often influenced by well known “other worlds” such as J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth and those from role playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons. It is a genre of art that uses magic and other supernatural forms as a primary element of theme. Fantasy art varies from Greek Gods to Mermaids to different fairy tales and more. Dragons, angels, socerers, demons and ghosts amongst others inhabit the realms of fantasy. There are different themes of fantasy art; such as Dark fantasy, this is a popular theme for both artists and connoisseurs where individuals can explore their deepest fears, and darkest desires, it really is tough to define dark fantasy art, as almost any typical fantasy subject can be depicted in a ‘dark’ light. Dragon fantasy art accompanied by female warriors or ancient heroes is also an attractive theme for artists as they can create a fantastical legend on canvas. Fantastic fantasy art worlds are filled with creatures, castles, dungeons, dragons, heroes and beautiful maidens, fairies, gods and monsters, all in a style inspired by classic illustrators.
Fantasy Art is all about what the artist can dream up, it is his passion as it allows him the freedom to explore imagery without limits: however, there are no confines of genre, depth, or scope regarding his capability.
The Evolution of Swimwear
Introduction
Swimwear is the term used for garments designated for swimming and beach wear. It has gradually changed over the years from the bulky garments used to completely cover the body into the selection of brief pieces of fabric arranged to expose as much as possible of the body.
Finding the right sort of swimwear is not always that easy especially if you do not have a large budget. There is an enormous variety of body sizes and shapes for both men and women and correspondingly there are an enormous variety of outfits ranging from the very cheap to the very expensive.
Fashion Dictates
If it was just a case of having a bathing costume to wear when going swimming and replacing it when it had worn out, life would be relatively easy. But there is the matter of fashion. Every year the designers come up with a different style so that the previous year’s model suddenly looks old fashioned and we feel compelled to buy a new one. As purchasers we are confronted with one piece swimsuits, two piece swimwear, some with long tops, some with skimpy tops, high leg cut, high waist cut, different cup sizes, in a variety of fabrics, colours, patterns, two tone and so on. The choice is endless.
History of Swimwear
The earliest recorded bathing costume was in 350 BC in Greece which was a toga-like garment for bathing. During the 18th century people visited spa resorts for their health where they spent time in the spa waters. Naturally they needed something proper to wear, other than their day clothes, when they were engaged in public bathing. Later the recreation of beach bathing demanded a specially made outfit to maintain decorum and decency, so the bathing suit was developed.
Initially the swimwear was rather like ordinary daywear, and the dresses worn by the women sometimes had lead weights sewn into the hems to prevent the skirts from floating up. As the expansion of the railways enabled the masses to spend time at the seaside a more practical type of outfit was required. By the early 1900’s the swimsuit consisted of bloomers with black stocking and shoes, and the top was like a jacket belted at the waist. Swimming was considered suitable for men, while women were assisted into the water for a short dip.
Over the century attitudes changed and swimming became an Olympic sport for both men and women. Gradually the swimming costume changed to adopt short capped sleeves and more ankle was exposed beneath the bloomers. As women became more active in the water the swimming costume needed to be less cumbersome so the neckline was lowered and the tops became sleeveless. Eventually the Princess cut was introduced which consisted of the trousers attached to a blouse in one piece.
In 1909 Annette Kellerman, the Australian swimmer, film star and author, wore what is considered to be the first ladies swimwear costume consisting of only one piece, which actually got her arrested for indecency back in the 1900’s, but by 1910 “Annette Kellermans” became the new accepted ladies swimwear.
From then on the swimsuits became lighter and briefer. By the 1920’s the women wore figure hugging tank suits made from wool Jersey and by 1928 they had evolved into the swimsuit we would recognise today. In the 1930’s cotton was introduced for bathing suits sometimes with little overskirts to disguise bulky thighs, but film stars wore fashionable figure hugging costumes with higher cut legs sealing the fate of the fashionable swimwear.
The corset manufacturers in the 1940’s saw that women with less than perfect figures needed swimsuits to hide or control the bulges, so seeing a gap in the market they produced costumes which had control panels for the tummy and bra cups and bones to give support to the bust. Using the techniques applied in corset making they introduced the stretch factor to bathing costumes so that they were more flattering than ever before.
With the development of new fabrics, Nylon and Lycra became the fabric of choice for swimwear because of their stretch properties. This meant that the costume could be pulled on without openings or fastenings and gave a firmer cleaner line to the figure. Women continued to wear all in one swimsuits until the 1950’s when the bikini became popular.
Leisure Swimming or Sunbathing
Although certain costumes are called swimwear, in fact some never get near the water. They are solely for sunbathing which usually means they are as small as possible, just barely covering the essential bits so that the skin gets maximum exposure to the sun and such a design would be classed as a bikini.
Two Piece or Bikinis
Over two thousand years ago early mosaics and pottery from Greece portray what in fact looks like an early version of a bikini. These garments were used by women performers and acrobats and were in two pieces to cover the breasts and the lower part of the body, much like the current style of Bandeau tops. Modern day runners and athletes wear something very similar when competing. Paula Radcliffe when running the Marathon last year, wore a garment almost identical to those worn thousands of years ago!!
The bikini resembles women’s underwear and has been described as a scanty two piece bathing suit. The lower part may be two small triangles attached together with a string tie at either side, or even a thong. The upper part may also be two small triangles attached together with a string tie but arranged in a slightly different order. Louis Reard patented the modern version of the bikini in 1946; his design was similar to the skimpy string 1970’s bikini and it shocked the world when it appeared on French beaches in 1947.
The very first bikini shown in the cinema was in the Bond film Dr No when Ursula Andress rises out of the sea in a white bikini. This created the iconic Bond girl and made her world famous. When being interviewed on television recently she revealed that the bikini had been constructed out of a bra covered with the fabric to give her the required lift of the bosom. This actual bikini sold at auction for £35,000 in 2001.
Fashions dictated that swimwear bikinis should be as small as possible by the 1990’s as the desire for a near all over tan peaked.
Ultimately the top part of the bikini was abandoned altogether when topless sunbathing became the norm in some countries and the bottom was just a G-string or thong also called a Tanga. Oliver Saillard the fashion journalist states that the bikini is the most popular female beachwear in the world, and that the emancipation of swimwear is linked to the emancipation of women.
In the 1950’s there was a popular song entitled ‘In My little Itsy Bitsy Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’ that indicated the acceptance of the new style of swimwear. I remember my cousin persuading me to try on a bikini and I felt very exposed but she said how amazing I looked in it because I was so slim.
Although the bikini is now an acceptable garment whatever the size, the one piece swimsuit is still the best for serious swimmers. Some businesses are well known for their skill at making swimwear and make all the garments for the Olympic team and other swimming competitions. Now swimwear is available in a wide range of bust sizes and the more expensive makes have control panels for the stomach combined with clever styling to create a good silhouette. Combined with a matching sarong, older ladies may feel more comfortable when walking around the beach area.
Helen Mirren was photographed on holiday in her substantial bikini last summer with the caption commenting on how good she looked for her age and that particular bikini was snapped up from the stores within days. Perhaps the customers believed that they could look as good as Helen Mirren in a bikini if they had the same one.
Leg Line
Some two piece bathing suits are cut so that the waist is high and the corresponding leg line is also cut high. I believe the aim is to make the wearer look as though her legs are much longer than they are. However if you have less than the perfect shape for this style it can emphasise large hips so it’s not for all women.
Another fashion style is the tankini where the bottoms look like little shorts and shows the lower curve of the bottom, which is fine if you are young with a nice pert bottom.
Swimwear tankinis comprise a long top which stops just short of the bottoms, allowing a small section of midriff to show.
The classic bikini style is still as popular as ever though, with the cut of the leg line following the natural crease between the leg and the hip.
The most recent development in fabric is the ‘tan through’ swimwear. This allows the body to tan without exposing the body to the world. Some commentators on this style point to the effects of too much sun on the body and the occurrences of skin cancer of which the evidence indicates an alarming increase. However, the counter argument to that is if you are wearing a bikini anyway then the extra exposure to the sun through the top and bottom garments is hardly going to make much difference.
Conclusion
Swimwear is a term used these days to cover all types of beach wear and swimming gear. It is a bit of a misnomer in that many outfits never see the water and are not used for swimming. However there is a huge range of garments available for the buyer of different styles, sizes and fabrics. The one commonality of course is that everyone wants to look good once they don these garments. The main key to that is to make sure your new swimwear is the right fit and cut, for your body size and shape.
The importance of being properly measured for your swimwear is often overlooked but it is as important as being properly measured for your bra or other underwear, particularly if you do indeed intend to actually swim in your new swimwear! By wearing the right size and style swimwear for your body, will ensure you are really comfortable in it on the beach, in the pool or wherever else you choose to wear it.
Achieve Independence Using Mobility Devices
Introduction
Mobility – it is only in actuality feasible to cherish what mobility means if your ability to move around freely is affected, then it takes on a completely new purpose. Coping with someone who is partially disabled provides me with an insight into the kind of situations that people with impairments have to deal with. When you are fit enough as well as sure footed there isn’t any true grasp in the restriction of not having ample mobility of your person. Besides which nobody will be particularly interested unless of course it concerns them closely.
We all take it totally for granted when everything performs as it ought to and we get on with living our lives concentrating on making money, raising a family, having a good time and other such ordinary everyday activities. In truth often we really don’t even like to look at people who are handicapped and in bad shape because it makes us aware of our own vulnerability which reminds us of our mortality. Next time you see another who’s in a wheel chair, recognize your own reaction to that human being, and be aware of how a person evade eye contact and diligently get out of the way. People who have wheelchairs in many cases state how people they speak to will speak with the carer and overlook them as if they are useless too deaf.
Early Disability Devices
The first type of disability aid that most people will be familiar with is the walking stick. For some, it will be something to make them feel more secure on their feet when they suffer some impairment in walking. If a person has a broken leg or hip then crutches for a period of time will be needed and later a stick until full mobility returns. When I broke my hip I found the most frustrating thing was that I could not carry a cup of tea from one place to another so I improvised with a trolley on wheels which I could push along. When you have to use two arm crutches as I did to get about, there are no arms left to carry anything. For non spilling things you can use a bag to carry your things in which can be attached to your crutches, but not cups of liquid. Recently when visiting my husband in hospital I watched while the nurses unpacked a Zimmer frame on which they attached a plastic box with a tray for a lid. It was fixed like a basket on a bike. The patient had to practice pushing it along, and I realised it was because he lived on his own and needed to be able to transport things but couldn’t manage without two handed support. These types of early aids are common for people as they get older and lose their youthful mobility because of age related problems. They are additionally vital if you have endured accidents and accidental injuries so that short-term mobility is affected.
Self-sufficiency
One of the major frustrations for people becoming disabled is their loss of independence and freedom to be able to do what they want, when they want. If a person becomes disabled after years of normal living and independence there will be a great deal of angst and a need to make adjustments to the new situation. However, whatever the disability experienced there are a vast range of aids to help people live as independent a life as possible.
Ordering mobility scooters via internet is a very convenient way of getting the required machine at the very best cost.
In the Home
When suffering loss of mobility or normal functioning whatever the reason, the first task is to create safety and functionality in the home where the level of disability determines the type of support needed.
One of the first things to consider is the degree of comfort while resting. Correct support in bed and while sitting in a chair will allow the muscles to relax properly so that the body will function as well as possible. There are a range of Orthopaedic beds which allow for many different positions from lying to sitting and the best examples are the hospital beds where you will find electronic buttons to change the position of a patient with ease. Chairs can also be found that will allow for different positions and even a vibrating and massaging function incorporated into the frame. A friend of mine had a chair specially made which reclines, vibrates and massages in three different places and also tips forward when you want to get out for ease of standing up. When we visit we all want a go in it as it is such good fun.
The next test when disabled, is the function of toilet, bathing and dressing. There are a huge range of aids to chose from such as commodes and other toilet necessities, grab rails for showers and baths. My mother is severely arthritic and cannot get into the bath anymore, so she has a seat which lowers and raises her in and out of the bath. There are also walk in baths and then specially adapted showers with stools and slip mats to aid the sufferer. Also as my mother is partially sighted she is unable to read the numbers anymore, so she has a set of talking weighing scales.
Having managed the getting up, washing and dressing as well as maybe a good rest in the special chair, moving around the home will be next on the agenda. Depending of the level of incapacity it might be that a simple walking stick or Zimmer frame will support mobility. As well as grab handles in the bathroom, handles can be mounted alongside entrance doors and steps to help with negotiating different levels. Just because people suffer some sort of disability it doesn’t mean that they want to leave their homes, but when they live in a house and have stairs to negotiate then the use of a stair lift is a wonderful invention. Severely handicapped people may need a wheelchair in the home which requires a lot of living area and probably wider doorways for it.
The next activity for independent living is food preparation and dining. Standing can be a problem so a high stool to perch on might be helpful. Otherwise do as much preparation as possible sitting at the kitchen/dining table. If a person has a problem with holding cutlery and kitchen utensils, there are specially adapted items with larger handles for ease of use. With arthritis in the wrists, lifting items such as kettles and saucepans can be a problem, but there are available cleverly designed kettle and teapot tippers for ease of pouring. Using a food processer and electric gadgets will save a great deal of time and effort when preparing meals. Another simple aid which my mother found very useful is a grabbing stick or ‘Reacher’ that picks up items to save bending down.
Those that buy the four wheel scooter it’s possible you’ll also want a specially adapted vehicle on which to load it so you can travel further afield.
Maintaining the home is sometimes challenging for a disabled person. Obviously there are washing machines, dryers and dishwasher to aid with tasks in the home but you can also get remote control vacuum cleaners that are radio controlled with a joystick or key pad such as for toy boats and aeroplanes. Long handled brushes and dusters help with hard to reach corners particularly the microfiber dusters that attract dirt and dust to them.
Other items available for people who have some level of limitation may be lever type handles for taps to make them easier to use. If a person has lost their grip there are special items to open cans, bottles and jars. Because my mother is partially sighted she has large buttons on her telephone and speed dialling so she can stay in touch with her family who are spread far and wide. She can order goods by phone which means with such aids she is able to retain her independence and stay in her own home. It seems that whatever the disability there is some clever invention to help overcome the problem.
Outside the Home
To enable a person who is disabled to live as normal a life as possible then aids outside the home are just as important as those inside. Wearing an alarm cord around the neck is a wise precaution so that if a person does get into difficulties while outside they can call for help. To be able to move around easily outside may only require a walking stick or a Zimmer frame for support but where mobility is more restricted, wheelchairs or electric scooters may be necessary. My mother used to love to garden but now the arthritis and osteoporosis has taken hold and her eyesight is impaired, she is severely limited in any activity outside. On a good day however she does have a garden stool which enables her to do some weeding and tidying of the flower beds. There are even wheeled seats for moving along the edge of flower beds when weeding. Long handled garden items can be used to avoid bending or kneeling and raised beds will allow even wheel chair users to tackle the garden plot. Ramps may be installed to allow a wheelchair to move from one level to another, and sit-on lawn mowers are a possibility if you have a big enough lawn.
There is a relatively new product on the market called Flexiloc which is a modular system of tough polyurethane tiles that interlocks to form ramps of any size. It has the advantage of being able to run straight, turn corners, be used indoors or outdoors and has a good grip surface that is more comfortable than conventional surfaces. It can be used as a temporary solution where a permanent ramp is not viable and is easily dismantled to be reused again and again.
If a disabled person relies on a wheelchair then automatic gates and garage doors which open remotely is a big help. Cars or vans used for transporting electric scooters are usually specially modified vehicles with ramps or lifts to allow the mobility scooter to be loaded up. Sometime cars may have to be adapted to allow for the lack of functioning of particular limbs. My husband cannot manage the foot pedal movement required for gear changing so we have switched to an automatic car to enable him to still drive.
Whatever your disability you’ll find portable mobility scooters at this website accommodating all price ranges.
There is a vast range of mobility scooters available both new and second hand. The mobility scooter is mostly a four wheeled vehicle which travels between four and eight miles an hour. However for the electric scooter there seems to be more three wheeled versions which travel at a maximum of six miles per hour. The speed is determined on the weather, the terrain and riders weight. A three wheeled scooter is inherently less stable and unless greater manoeuvrability is required it is better to get the four wheeled variety. Some scooters can be completely folded up to go into the boot of a car. The scooter usually has a chair with arms mounted over the battery enclosure with handlebars like a bike for turning and controls in reach of the hands. They are very easy to operate and comfortable to ride. The chairs vary with the amount of padding and enclosed back, usually the more expensive the more padding there is.
As well as the open versions of mobility scooters there are enclosed ones to protect the passenger from rain and wind. These come with lights, windscreen wipers, full suspension, mirrors and lockable doors as with a car and can cover larger distances. I have noticed them in my local area travelling along the road rather than on the pavement.
Home Remote Controls
Where an individual is physically unable to get about inside or outside the home the use of remote controls is a valuable aid. Being able to manage and operate your entertainment centre remotely is only one of the possibilities. The availability of remote controls for opening and closing of blinds and curtains, switches for electrical equipment such as ovens, lights, cooking appliance and washing machines, is a great help. For people who cannot easily answer the door there is a keyless door entry system designed to fit most latch locks which enable the elderly, the disabled and partially sighted who have difficulty using keys, to manage their security remotely.
One story I read in the paper a few weeks ago was of a young man who was so obese, in the region of forty stone, that he could not move out of his bed. He had an entertainment centre in his room remotely controlled and he ordered food online to be delivered to his house. There were three healthcare workers in attendance at all times to turn him in bed and see to his bodily needs; as well as people to prepare for him the food he had ordered. He was waiting for a stomach operation to staple his stomach together to reduce his intake of food. And all this was paid for by the tax payer. My feeling was that if there was no one to take such good care of him he would soon lose weight because he would not be able to get about and eat all that food.
Conclusion
For the babies who have been born with a physical disability, may never know what it is like to be completely mobile and they may forever yearn to live a normal life. For those who were once completely functional, when they become disabled they have to come to terms with their loss and confront up to their own mortality. If the time comes when you are no longer able to do all the things you used to do, then be sure there are many creative aids that can assist you maintain as much self-sufficiency as possible.
